Closing Ceremony of Diploma Course on Derecho del Mar y Marítimo
para la Impartición y Administración de Justicia
Mexico City.-On September 6th, the Closing Ceremony of Diploma Course on Derecho del Mar y Marítimo para la Impartición y Administración de Justicia, Class I, was held successfully with the participation of 50 students: 10 students from the Mexican Navy and 40 students from Attorney General’s Office of Mexico.
The closing ceremony took place in the main square of the Unidad de Protección Portuaria (Port Protection Unit, UNAPROP-102) in the city and port of Manzanillo, Colima. This event was chaired by: Admiral José Rafael Ojeda Durán, Secretary of the Navy; Honorable Ken Salazar, United States Ambassador to Mexico; Chancellor Alicia Bárcena, Secretary of Foreign Affairs; MA. Indira Vizcaino Silva, State Governor of Colima; Mr. Kristian Hölge, Representative of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Mexico; Retired Admiral Felipe Solano Armenta, Chief Executive Officer of Operación Aduanera (Customs Operations); Admiral Juan José Padilla Olmos, Chief of General Staff of the Navy; Retired Admiral Salvador Gómez Meillón, Head of Administración del Sistema Portuario Nacional de Manzanillo (National Port Administration of Manzanillo, ASIPONA, Manzanillo, by its initials in Spanish); Admiral Vicente Andrade Morales, Commander of Décima Región Naval (Tenth Naval Region); and MA. Roberto Velasco Álvarez, Chief Officer for the North America Unit.
Diploma course on Derecho del Mar y Marítimo para la Impartición y Administración de Justicia, is not only a highlight to academically foster Navy personnel, but also criminal law professionals. This academic program offered participants a comprehensive training in international maritime law in its public and private spheres, focusing on its relationship with Mexican law, and specifically with the Law of the Sea and Maritime and Criminal Law, with a theoretical and practical approach, in order to achieve learning and consensus in favor of the joint work that both institutions carry out for the benefit of our country.
By completing this diploma course, we assert Secretariat of the Navy and Center for Higher Naval Studies commitment with security and maritime and port development. Ultimately, we lay the foundations aiming to a thriving and safe future for our coats and territorial waters.
